Investing in Innovation (i3) program provides funding to (1) LEAs, and (2) nonprofit organizations in partnership with (a) one or more LEAs or (b) a consortium of schools. Each year, grantees meet to share best practices and to communicate with the Department. Safal was awarded the contract to support the 2015 and 2016 i3 Conference for nearly 600 attendees and 16 breakout sessions. Safal led the planning and agenda development of the conference in collaboration with ED, Westat and Abt Associates.

Safal’s responsibilities include:

• Organizing pre-and post-conference logistics
• Securing conference space
• Audio visual set up
• Shaping the agenda
• Travel and lodging support for speakers
• Online registration that included the development of a website
• Conference document, badge and, tent card production
• Recording of conference meetings with closed captioning; posting conference materials online; and
• Creating a dedicated smartphone app
