Leonel Olmedo brings forth more than 6 years in the teaching and education sector. Engaging with district, charter, and higher education organizations, Leonel has a passion for projects that can increase his impact on the lives of under-served students.

Drawing upon his broad educational experience, Leonel provides rigorous qualitative and quantitative research support at Safal Partners. Prior to Safal, Leonel was an Education Pioneers Data Analyst Fellow with KIPP Houston Public Schools. As a Senior Data Analyst with KIPP, he was awarded the Mike Feinberg Beyond Z Innovation Grant for his development of a college match tool that helped triple the number of students applying to selective schools.  He was also instrumental in designing a data management system for The United for College Success Coalition, a group of leading Texas CMOs and ISDs striving to increase college persistence efforts for over 12,000 alumni. Prior to Education Pioneers, Leonel led a 10-person team as a Project Coordinator with the Houston Independent School District’s Apollo 20 program. Leonel was also a Research Associate with the University of Texas at Austin, where he wrote an extensive array of code for a child development lab. Leonel began his career in the education sector after joining Teach for America in Chicago, where he was placed at Noble’s Muchin College Prep campus. As the lead Biology teacher, Leonel and his team achieved the highest scores in their network for their subject area.

Leonel holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in the Biological Sciences from the University of Chicago, where he enrolled as a Gates Millennium Scholar and completed a three-year independent research project that was funded by the National Institute of Health.
